Project Matis Event Story
So, Goddess of Victory: Nikke has a new event story that was dropped 2 days ago.
The event story revolves around how Syuen got her CEO role in Misslis. There will be some element in the story will not be included for the sake of time.
It started off with present-day Syuen joining in on present-day Matis Squad (minus Drake. And no, not that singer Drake). Then they were reminiscing on how they started off as just the two of them (Laplace and Maxwell) with Syuen helping out. And then flashbacks happened after that.
And we get to know so much lore in this event. Like the first thing I noticed was, and assuming the flashbacks to "Back in my day" was, give or take, 70 years (don't worry about the years here, it's video game way of timeline), we now know that Maxwell knew the current Missilis CEO since she was a kid (and Maxwell being the adult when the flashback happened). Although it hasn't shown how Maxwell became a Nikke (she was still a human back-in-the-day) yet but with this part 1 of the event, we knew their relationship goes WAAAAAAAY back.
And then as the flashback story progresses, the more I noticed that Syuen's dad, who is the current Missilis CEO at this "back in my day"/flashback time, not exactly the father figure should be acting. Eg. calling her daughter's (Syuen's) work pathetic in front of everyone else while praising it's work just weeks prior, just to name one.
The said work was, re-inventing the wheel from the blueprint that nobody had able to do since her grandmother's time (and her Grandmother was the CEO before Syuen's Dad took over).
The timeline around here isn't clear, but my best guess is a day or two after calling her daughter's work pathetic, he decides to steps down with immediate effect and make Syuen, the CEO successor of Missilis. He then went to the surface and whereabouts are unknown for now. And like I said earlier, his not the father figure should be acting.
Fast forward for the flashbacks to maybe early adulthood1.. Missilis were under fire for underperforming again2. Both Maxwell and her "not-so-good" step-sister3 (named Jien) have advised her that she has something her dad can't do.
So she did it, announcing "Project Matis".
Many had signed up for it and one of them is being, Laplace. But Syuen meeting Laplace was not in a typical sense deal. It isn't in the interview room they've set up (for the rest of the applicants that showed up), but in a room on a dark room in a hallway (in the company). Laplace fell asleep while looking to rest up temporary, and that is until Syuen came into the room, switched on the light and there, they both met.
And that's the Story 1 ends. We'll have to wait til the 30th (29th for Americans) for Story 2 and see how they progress from there.
Overall, I think the story is great. Genuinely made me feel angry towards Syuen's dad for who he was. And Maxwell being the Mom for Syuen throughout the flashbacks section? makes me go "Awwww, how sweet!".
It also explains why Syuen acted the way she is during present-day world where she treats Matis Squad the best and everyone else, okay-ish at best (mostly being a, for a lack of better word, dick-ish).
I love Nikke's world building and it's stories. While it have their own weakness, the story released by them is among the best when it comes to Gacha-type games.
Happy blogging!

The timeline of this isn't very clear yet. So this is just an assumption.↩
First time for Syuen, as far as we can tell. Not the first time with Missilis as a whole.↩
it will be a story for another time. Essentially, Jien is the step-sister to Syuen. Different Mom's. She taken after her dad's side when it comes to her personality.↩
