I just read Bella's post about Ecosia.
I too, are using Ecosia. Since mid-2025.
Here's the thing though. Ecosia isn't the only search engine I'm using. In fact, I'm using 3 at the moment.
- Duckduckgo
- Ecosia
- Mojeek
For Duckduckgo, their motto is no AI. And they are, at least according to what the privacy people on reddit says, slightly more private than Ecosia. Searching with Duckduckgo seems to be decent. May not be as good as evilGoogle but should be fine if what you're looking for isn't very, very specific stuff/question.
Ecosia, search result is as decent as Duckduckgo but for very, very specific stuff/question, it can be meh. But like Duckduckgo, general stuff or higher popular stuff will give similar results with the other search engines. I like their "contributing to enviroment" motto thingy.
Mojeek. This isn't your typical search engine that uses Google's or Bing's API. They uses their own version of web crawler. Which means, their search results will be vastly different from results to results. Take for example: Firefox wiki. It will lead you to Mozilla's own wiki page first before Wikipedia.org's version. However, if you search Firefox wikipedia, Wikipedia's version comes first. My result shows english version first before it lists every other languages version of wikipedia page for Firefox. So it's very word oriented. If you made a typo and enters anyway (due to how fast we typing), it's results will load some very interesting results that your first thought would be like: the heck is this? .. And then you realised, you either had a typo or accidentally typed something extra at the end.
"Try Elsewhere" button right below the search results from Mojeek. The little cog wheel is the setting.
And what makes Mojeek different is: if Mojeek can't find what you're looking for, you're literally one-click away to search from the other search engine you've set. Once you click, for example, on Ecosia... it will redirect it to Ecosia's website with the same exact search term and will instead, load Ecosia's own results. Isn't it useful feature? It sure is to me!
So in a sense, this isn't an exactly a "response" but more of a, expanding it. And by it, I meant, Search Engine.
So for me, I'd recommend Duckduckgo or Ecosia. Only use Mojeek if you want to avoid Google's or Bing's API and wanted something like a free version of Kagi1 but without the ranking system that it allows you to set.
